Suggested apache access config?

I'm trying to hook subversion into apache. I understand that apache
will need read/write access to /usr/local/svn/repos/db. What is the
suggested way to do this? I'm assuming that I'll want to setup access
both via the apache server and via local file. Perhaps some apache
auth can be used which will cause apache to setgid to some group with
r/w access? I'm just guessing.
