All the world is not Unix. Windows NT has a limit of, iirc, 128 chars on
the command line.

That's what I was thinking, yes.

(We really should think a bit more about the diff format, though. What
we generate now can't be pushed at patch, or even "svn patch" -- even if
there was one.)
