Right now the choice is either (b) alone or (a and b). Doing (a)
alone doesn't help us with our current repository.

Sometimes this is exactly the right response, when red is better than
blue. I'm not sure that's the case here, but, as much as your example
made me laugh out loud :-), the situation it parodies is not actually
ridiculous.

I guess what we should try to answer is, is red or blue preferable, or
are they really the same?

Now that I think about it more, I actually 0.1 for the empty root
node. Starting numbering at 0.0 is all nice and pure like, but, hey,
it's revision *1* not revision 0, so the purity is a bit lost by that
point anyway.
