Yet you don't mention the mechanism in subversion to accomplish this.

Just more things to go wrong if you have special cases. We actually do,
and yes, they have gone wrong (like tests passing with test credentials
that failed in the production setup), which is why I think there should
be a generic way to handle this general problem.
