Merge problem

Hi,

I am trying to perform a merge from changes on trunk onto one of my
branches and am
getting error messages which I do not understand. My workarea has the branche
checked out and up to date. The branch was created in rev. 770

Repository version is 1.4, client version 1.6:

svn merge -r 772:812 ^/gui/trunk/ .
svn: 'http://subversion.tigris.org/xmlns/dav/md5-checksum' was not
present on the resource

using a svn 1.4 client (on a workarea checked out with it) I get:

svn merge -r 772:812 http://xxx/svn/yyy/gui/trunk
svn: GET of '/svn/yyy/!svn/bc/772/gui/trunk': 301 Moved Permanently (http://xxx)

(xxx and yyy replace server and product names).

Can anyone bring light into this?
