It is recommended way of things. Unless you have second server PC to set up as
a replacement.

Much like running two webservers in parallel - it raises so much of
uncertainty, i can't really recommend taking such a way.

It is the worst case scenario - in case the uninstall of the new RPM and
reinstall of the older package went wrong and things not working properly
still.

Sorry, but what do you plan to do if your system will be gone away for real?
Do you have *any* backups of it yet?
