Yes, that's also my experience with some former employers and
nowadays also with several customer's IT departments. IT and
development are like fire and water. They don't match. I am sometimes
quite shocked that many IT personell behaves more like civil servants
than like technical enthusiasts. Once I had a discussion with a
customer's system administrator. I: "The disadvantage of the big EMC
SAN storage is that you can't setup any RAID volumes without an
expensive EMC support contract." He: "The advantage of the big EMC SAN
storage is that I can't setup any RAID volumes, so my boss can't blame
on me if something goes wrong. So I will always recommend systems which
can only be configured and maintained by the manufacturer."
