What distribution of Subversion do you use?

Standard SUSE from Novell doesn't come with Subversion, and you have
to manually download APRlib, Neon, Libz and compile those first before
you download Subversion source and compile that. Another possibility
is to try the OpenSUSE packages at
<http://software.opensuse.org/search>.

Fedora, Red Hat, Ubuntu, and Debian all have packages available from
the dist packager. Do a search for "Subversion" or "SVN".
