Correct way to upgrade to 1.5.5 from source questions

I have 1.4 installed and running with viewvc on Fedora.
I want to install 1.5.5 in order to get the merge tracking.

Usually I would do a full dump and the import on the new server.

However I do not have the pleasure of getting a new server this time.

I will test the obviously but I wanted to see if this makes sense...

Do I just compile and run the new version (.configure make make install)?
Would I have to recompile apache as well?
And what about swig?

Thanks!
