RE: cannot access externals in a copied branch if original is locked down

From what I understand about the externals, even if you copy the branch
the externals are still pointing to the original location. You will
need to change the externals on the new branch to the new location. At
my work we do this quite often.

Subject: cannot access externals in a copied branch if original is
locked down

I have a question about externals and permissions. I copied a branch
that had some externals, and then changed the authz file to deny
everyone access to the original branch. When I tried to check out the
new branch, I got authorization failures on the externals.

I disabled the access control on the original branch, and then the new
branch was able to be checked out successfully.

Do I do the svn copy wrong, or is this just the way Subversion works?
I am using SUbversion 1.4.x on Windows.
