IIRC libgcc (and gcc) are distributed with Solaris 10 onwards.

.... which is not possible on Solaris (like on Mac OS X) due to Sun
deliberately not packaging a static libc (there are good reasons for doing
so
but I don't like it; makes creating some chroot's unnecessary hard).
