1.5 FSFS repository <-> 1.4 client compatibility

I'm reading two conflicting things in the release notes, and I wanted to get a clarification before I do a server upgrade that I'll regret. :)

Under the heading "Compatibility Concerns", it says "Older clients and servers interoperate transparently with 1.5 servers and clients". However, under the heading "Improved support for large deployments on FSFS, via sharding (server)", it says "These repositories will only be compatible with other Subversion 1.5 clients".

I imagine that the first is correct and the second means "clients" in the sense of "clients of the FSFS", i.e. tools that access a repository directly (e.g. svnserve, svnadmin, etc.). Can someone confirm?
