I am just curious... This issue seems to stumble most beginners and is
the reason the documentation to be full with phrases such as -

"But beware — this assumption is wrong, and has burned many a new user!"

What I am wondering is - subversion has been started to improve cvs. And
as far as I remember a lot of conceptual preparation has been done
before work has started. Isn't merge tracking important enough to have
been implemented before 1.0?
