As usual, nobody knows for sure. But I, who is not a developer, and
has no "inside" information (I just glance at the developer's mailing
list occasionally) wouldn't be surprised if it were available sometime
in the first few months of 2008.

I use a trunk version, and can't offhand think of any problems.
