File:// access is ruled out. Actually, the only reason to considered it was the problems configuring access against ldap (microsoft active directory) with path-based permissions ...
We tried sspi with no success defining path-based permissions.
Now we are considering authnz_ldap_module from apache...

I'll keep you informed of my progress ...

"file://" access is evil and is one of the reasons VSS corrupts so
easily. Further, you can use Apache to work with single signon, right?
I don't know how off the top of my head, but I thought you could. Am I
wrong? Worst case scenario, each user can cache their authentication on
their machine.
