RE: file:/// url schema

Hi Xoan,

If you are using file:/// schema with 100 users, I am assuming the users would need to NFS mount the repository on their machine as a drive.

That being the case, some issues to consider are
a) It is insecure, anyone can accidentally hit the "delete" key to wipe out the repository.
b) NFS mounted drives for SCM / database are inherently unreliable. It is always recommended to use local drives for repositories/databases.
c) Any re-organising, ie moving repositories for housekeeping (moving to new drives etc ), would require the users to have knowledge of the re-organisation and re-map their network drives.

Thanks
Lakshman

Subject: file:/// url schema

Hi again,

We have a context in which all access to repositories are inside a local area network. Have file:/// url schema any disadvantage from installing Apache or svnserve?

From what I have reading I only see two:

- The lack of compatibility with BDB, which is not a problem for us, since we use FSFS

- Perhaps a performance problem in concurrent access

What do you think? It is possible to use Subversion without a server with, lets say, 100 users?

Any other disadvantage?

Thanks
