svnadmin verify and checksum errors

Hi,

When I run svnadmin verify on my FSFS repository I get checksum
errors. Normally, I just restore the files from backup and run verify
again. However, I’ve noticed on my machine that if I run verify twice
in a row (with no one checking into the repository) right after
restoring the backup, the first verify succeeds while the second one
fails on the file I just backed up.

The repository is on a software RAID in Debian GNU/Linux. Just to
make sure that the FS wasn’t broken, I unmounted the file system and
fsck’d it. There was nothing out of the ordinary.

svnadmin reports:

    %svnadmin --version
    svnadmin, version 1.4.2 (r22196)
       compiled Nov 10 2006, 17:39:50

What might be causing this problem? svnadmin verify doesn’t write to
disk, does it?
        —Justin
