Think oil changes on a car. How many know *why* they're supposed to change
oil? It's just a mantra that dealers and their driving teachers tell them
to do, or the car stops running. Computers are not TV's, just like cars are
not TV's. They all operate with different maintenance regimes.

Version control is a kind of backup, and backup is a kind of insurance.
Most people understand insurance. They just are willing to accept different
amounts of risk versus cost. Insurance/backup/Subversion is a cost.
