But "I don't care and I just want to do my work", while being right in
principle, cannot be used to excuse the _necessary_ learning effort.

Why do people - including grandma - need to remember to shutdown
Windows[1] before turning off the computer? Why can't they just turn it
off when they are done just like they would a TV?

They don't care and they just want to do their "things", right?

Version control is _not_ something only a developer should/would/is
qualified to care about. At least not the basic lock-modify-unlock
workflow. I can't see how that becomes more of a huge interference even
to a non-developer than "remember to shutdown your Windows".
