well, what i finally had to do was to boot with an older
ubuntu live cd (5.04), apt-get update, apt-get install subversion,
which brought version 1.1.1
then i could perform the svnadmin dump.
before i tried to apt-get install subversion=1.2.3 and
many other older versions, even changing the sources.lists,
but i got an error that that version was not available
