The matter seems to boil down to personal preferences.

I use exclusively Linux, I never used CVS seriously, but still I find tags/
directory akward and counterintuitive. In more that a year with Subversion I
could not get used to it, so probaly I never will.

OTOH, labels would not preclude using tags/ directory those who want/like it.
It would just add another (cheap) feature to a subversion client that might
have good uses.

Sure, I do not urge Subversion team to rush implementing labels, especially
since they seem to dislike the concept. But for thos who want labels, they
can easily implemented in a wrapper (say perl) script around 'svn' command.
So thats the way to go at the moment, I believe.
