I don't see in your message any information about your environment. If
all your designers/artists are on Windows machines then you can use
TortoiseSVN which is the gold-standard of GUI Subversion interfaces. If
they are on Macs or *nix then there aren't as many GUI interfaces
available (although there are a few). You should also take a look at
using WebDav. The Subversion documentation describes setting up
Subversion so it can be accessed transparently through WebDav. There are
a bunch of tradeoffs associated with this approach but it makes for
no-brainer access to your repository.
