That doesn't help him. It's not the ".svn" directories that are the
problem, but part of his working copy gets deleted by Visual Studio.

I avoid this by NOT versioning the "Debug" and "Release" directories. (I
also never use Visual Studio Setup projects to create installers. I use
WiX (http://wix.sourceforge.net), just like TSVN team does). I do
version my released binaries by adding manually to a tag.
