In past threads on this list, relating to OpenOffice.org documents which
are zipped, it was brought up that gzip has an option now to make it
compress in a way that is rsync-friendly. When this option is used, it is
also Subversion-friendly. Someone was going to try to contact
OpenOffice.org to get them to start using this feature.

The point being that is you are in control of your zips, you might be able
to use this feature too.
