The problem with external "archives" or search engines is that they
are best effort. Something may be missed; something may have timed
out.

The right way to do mailing lists is with an explicit archive with
search capability. The GNU projects generally do this -- GCC is a
good examples.

Unfortunately, there are also plenty of organizations who get this
wrong...
