Well, the logic of the mapping would of course be the responsability of
the one that sets up the rules. Do wrong things there, you break it.
That's how software works most of the time.

 

With all due respect, that is, in fact, how software breaks a lot of the
time. Especially as projects grow and change over time. Maybe we just
work in different worlds.

 

I've got one project with something on the order of 10,000 files. Some
folders have a few hundred files in them. It might take a little more
than admonishing me to "be responsible" to guarantee the mapping on each
folder is one-to-one today and in the future. Just detecting "wrong
things" in name mapping rules will be a time consuming, error prone
task. In the projects that I'm working on, breaking it is a not an
option.
