Thanks, while not providing a solution, it at least was very
informative. It seems, that my problem is rather a common one amongst
large-scale svn users. And even more strange, looking at all the hacks
for dealing with it, the basic support for my dreamed-of usemodel is
already in svn, as it can operate on patch-work working copies. What
is only missing is a straight forward way to set them up with (non-)
recursive checkouts.
