How did you check out the file? Is it possible to create another dump file?
I'm not sure what has happened to this point, since I thought you're thread
was about something else. :-)

It sounds like the data is somehow corrupted in your dump file... perhaps a
bad disk? I've seen a lot of that going around lately. And no, the '.' at
the beginning should pose no issues.
