symlinks, exports, and VFAT

When running a FSFS repository on Linux, I'm finding that subversion
1.2.0 doesn't handle checkouts or exports to VFAT filesystems very well.
Bascially, it hits a symlink, gives a permissions error, and then
stops...it doesn't continue with non-symlink files, or convert the file
from a symlink to a full copy, or any of the other things I'd expect it
to do. I've tried the --force flag, too, with no avail.

Even if it doesn't handle the symlinks properly, I'd at least like the
exports/checkouts not to bomb out. Am I missing something obvious?
