Jim,
Judging from the emails that we exchanged off-list before this post,
you are using Metissian's subversion packages. As these were
originally intended to be streamlined client only packages, they do not
have bdb support built into them. Because of the dependency free
nature of the fsfs backend, support for using our binaries as a server
IS possible, just not with bdb.
We converted all of our repositories from bdb to fsfs literally the
same day as 1.1 final was released (some were already running it on
release candidates), and have not had a single problem since.
Ahh...sure is nice not to worry about freeing up wedged repositories
anymore. :-)
