Re: Log length limit on Windows? Problem with using notepad as log editor?

Way back in November, Scott Palmer had a problem using Notepad as a log
editor. Apologies if this has already been discussed since December - I
couldn't find anything in the archives.

I just had the same problem as Scott did, and it seems to me that it's
caused by problems with CR/LF handling somewhere in the log. When
Notepad starts up for me, I get a message like the following (pasted as
a quotation in attempt to maintain formatting):

> --This line, and those below, will be ignored--[LF][LF]M analysis/SideEffect.h

If I just type my log message above that line, the commit fails (with no
details, just as with Scott's). However, if I do a Ctrl-A to highlight
the entire file, delete the current text, and type the log message, the
commit succeeds.

Hope that helps anyone who's experiencing the same problem.

Chris.
