It did, but the general client user will not have access to the server
logs.

The log, as noted in my original message, was
[Wed Feb 09 10:55:25 2005] [crit] [client 127.0.0.1] configuration error: couldn't perform authentication. AuthType not set!: /svn/!svn/act/6a77a29b-b2ef-\
0310-b708-8b41b3d5c513

Looking at the configuration snippet that was causing this, I see that
the AuthType statements were commented out.
