I hate to get involved in this, but felt I had to point this out...
just because an application uses the Win32 API, doesn't mean it will run
anywhere.
You try running SQL Server or Exchange on a Win98 box...

Subject: Re: Can't get shared lock on win98
The problem is actually caused by the miss-use of the Win32 logo on the
Subversion download page. (
Will someone in charge of the project please correct this.
This is what Microsoft has to say about Win32
" The Microsoft(r) Windows(r) application programming interface (API)
allows
applications to exploit the power of the Windows family of operating
systems. Using this API, you can develop applications that run
successfully
on all versions of Windows while taking advantage of the features and
capabilities unique to each version. (Note that this was formerly called
the
Win32 API. The name Windows API more accurately reflects its roots in
16-bit
Windows and its support on 64-bit Windows.)
The Microsoft(r) Windows(r) application programming interface (API)
provides
building blocks used by applications written for Windows, including
Windows
Server 2003 family, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT(r), Windows
Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows 98, and Windows 95. You can
provide
your application with a graphical user interface; display graphics and
formatted text; and manage system objects such as memory, files, and
processes.
The Windows API can be used in all Windows-based applications. The same
functions are generally supported on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows."

Note that Win98 and Win95 are supported platforms for Win32. If
subversion
cannot perform on those paltforms it should not be advertising itsself
as
"Win32'.
I notice in other posts that there has been difficulty in reproducing
the
locking problems outside the subversion code base. Perhaps the Win32
API is
being used in some non standard way. In any case the download page is
where
this limitation of subversion should be made clear, not buried in the
FAQ.

(p.s. sorry about the lack of a threaded response. I had to go back to
Outlook after my virus checker kept deleting my entire Thunderbird
in-box.)
