Without being a Debian expert myself, I don't believe it is possible
to use an unstable package in a testing installation. Apart from the
nomenclature forbidding this, there could be library incompatibilities
and other such horrors.

Though copying mixed-rev WCs would be a nice feature to have, what I
really need is the ability to copy a WC that *can* be trivially made
single-revision, and that may contain local modifications. That's why
I was asking if there is some way to determine if this is possible (if
it is possible to determine whether a WC can be updated to a certain
revision without changing anything in it).
