Speaking as one for whom the manual was also initially somewhat confusing in
this regard, I think a simple statement of the assumptions in force for the
quick start example, along with a comment that those assumptions are not the
only "correct" way to set up a repository and are kept simple for
illustrative purposes, would be sufficient.
