You *can* rename the directory to whatever you like (note: that is not
supported by the subversion team anymore and requires changes to the
sourcecode). But you cannot move all .svn directories away from your
sourcecode as these directories are the actual "version control". They
contain everything that svn uses. Without them svn would have no way
to know if the current directory is version controlled or not.
