But the repository files themselves never lived on the Mac?

That recovery output looks rather wrong. Any chance of talking to you via
IRC about this?

If you've not used IRC before, chatzilla (part of mozilla) is a nice
graphical IRC client that you might already have installed.

I'm likely to be around on #svn for most of the next 7 hours or so.
