Beats me... the standard './configure; make' should work on any flavor
of unix. Perhaps libtool is acting strangely on AIX.

There are two approaches than can be taken:

* show us detailed configure and make output, and maybe we can see why
libtool is picking up old installed libraries

* or, just remove the installed 1.0 libs and try rebuilding.
