Update/switch only selected sub projects

We have a quite large project structured the following way:

/svn/proj/trunk/subproj1
                subproj2
                subproj3
. . .
/svn/proj/branches/branch1/subproj1
                           subproj2
. . .

Each team has to deal only with some of the sub projects, e.g. subproj1,
subproj3 and subproj7, and should only checkout those sub projs.

Is there a way to update or switch the parent dir of the sub projects and only
the checked out sub projs are updated/switched and not all other sub projs are
checked out?
