"Invalid editor anchoring" Error

From: David Wheeler <david_at_kineticode.com>

Howdy,

I was just attempting to do a merge from a branch to trunk for my
project when I got an error:

geertz% svn merge -r 5223:HEAD
http://svn.example.com/project/branches/rev_1_8 .
svn: REPORT request failed on '/!svn/vcc/default'
svn:
Invalid editor anchoring; at least one of the input paths is not a
directory and there was no source entry

I successfully did a merge a few weeks ago, so I know it's do-able. Can
anyone tell me what this error message means and how I might go about
correcting the problem?

Many thanks,

David
