To amplify a little what I suggested on the other thread, having an automatic
update for a webserver is great for a development server (not so much for
production sites).

But there is no reason that the production server can't also have its own
working copy; just make that one a manual update. If you are into that sort of
thing, you can even make specific release tags and then switch the production
server WC to the next release tag (instead of using the HEAD revision
exclusively). You have lots of options...
