proxy configuration

Hi,

I'm really new to subversion.

I have a question regards proxy configuration.

I just setup a private subversion repository at my home server (over
apache) for experiment, which is accessible globally.

I usually access this server from:

  1. our office, limits http access via proxy server.

or

  2. On dial-up or hot spots where I can connect to my server directly.

My working copy is on my laptop.

I found that subversion's proxy configuration is bound to server (or
URL) and there seems no way to override configuration other than
modifying configuration file or specifying different configuration
directory using --config-dir option.

Is there any easy way to override proxy configuration?

Any reason there are no support for 'http_proxy' style environment
variable? It's convenient in this sort of situation.
