Just as an update.. I was unable to build either gcc 3.2 or 3.4 on this
machine. I'm afraid the fact that I'm not a C guru is really hindering
me here.

On another note, I found out about HP's "Test Drive" program, whereby
they allow open access to various servers including an HP-UX 11.11
system with their ANSI C compiler installed. I was able to build the
tools using this resource and copy it over to my server, so things are
working again for the time being.
