Backing up a live repos

I think I know the answer already but one has to ask ;-)
Our repos in on W2K running as svnserve, not apache.
I tried a CD backup (Nero) and got file in use errors.
What I'd really like is to get a shadow server to clone the repos at
regular intervals, say 4am. Do I have to stop svnserve or is there a
fancy live backup system like MySQL does please?
