By the way, I think my difficulty finding this
information arose because it is indexed in the
book in a tool-centric rather than user centric
manner.

I.e. it is under "Common Use Cases for Merging",
which is the Subversion way to accomplish this.
As a user familiar with other tools, I don't think of
this as merging so much as undoing or reverting.

Suggestion: group or index use cases together.
