No, your use cases make sense, but I think you're confusing "normal"
tagging patterns with "psychotic" tagging patterns.

Like any project, you make tags only once in a while... when you make a
snapshot for a release to specific customer, for example. This pattern
is universal for any version control system, so of course you would
continue doing this in Subversion as well.

Your proposal was to automatically make a tag after *every* commit.
That's psychotic tagging. :-) There are thousands and thousands of
commits. Surely not every single commit to the repository is worth
tagging!

Have you read chapters 2, 3, and 4 in the book? I can't quite tell.
Global version numbers really have nothing to do with branching and
tagging patterns, but in your mind, you're somehow relating them.
