Since this could be construed as a "compatiability issue" between the SCC
API provider and the IDE, there is a good chance we will decide to use a
custom compile of Subversion until the official source code includes the
needed flexibility. We may end up being the ones who submit the patch to
handle the working folder directory structure.
It shouldn't be that difficult to patch, since it is a platform-dependant
issue. UNIX-like platforms could use the existing ".svn" folder name, and
Win32 platforms could use "SVN". I don't have the Subversion source code
memorized, but I would be surprised if there isn't some kind of switching to
handle different socket implementations and/or threading implementations. If
this were done within the "official" source code, then each platform's build
Should Just Work (tm), and that would include tools that depend on
Subversion such as TortoiseSVN. The change would no longer break
compatibility between Subversion clients working in the same working folder.
