Error message from TortoiseSVN 0.24 (with Subversion 0.35.1) doing update - "Delta source ended unexpectedly"

I'm using TortoiseSVN 0.24 (with Subversion 0.35.1)
on Windows 2000.

I just attempted to do an update of a web project on one
of our load-balanced deployment servers.

The first update was fine.

The second update got part-way through and then right after a particular
file (ApplicationError.aspx), it said:

Delta source ended unexpectedly.

How can I diagnose or fix this problem
(short of blowing the directory away and checking it out from scratch)?

Luckily, I don't believe there are any local modifications except
for in one file which should be preserved by copying them from
the other sibling web server.
