Can you give us some more information about your client and server?

- How much RAM does each one have? I'm wondering is someone is digging
  into swap somewhere...
- How many files are you trying to check out?
- What's the total size of your working copy once checked out?
- Can you duplicate this problem checking out a copy on another client?
- Can you check out some subset of your repository?
- Etc.

What I'd like to see you do is try some different things and let us know
what happens so we can get a better picture of what's going on with your
repository.

Thanks,

-Fitz
