That's actually expected.
When you double-click, the word is marked and selected.
When you then start dragging, the selection is immediately cleared and
started again from where you start dragging.
While the double-clicked word stays marked, it is no longer selected.
You have to select the whole word as well, e.g. by dragging from the end
of the marked word back to the start of the line.
